Mark Hamill strikes epic Yoda-training pose during Star Wars filming

Hamill and next-gen Star Wars star Daisy Ridley take time out from filming the next entry in the saga to re-create a famous pose from "The Empire Strikes Back."

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" started filming in February at Pinewood Studios in London. The much-anticipated follow-up to last year's "The Force Awakens" is in production under a veil of secrecy.

The brick exterior at Pinewood doesn't look much like the planet Dagobah, but actor Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Daisy Ridley (Rey from "The Force Awakens") carrying Hamill on her back as he points into the distance.

This might just look like a couple of actors goofing around between scenes, but most Star Wars fans will immediately pick up on the reference to the Yoda training scenes in 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back." Quick refresher: Young Skywalker goes to a swampy planet to receive his Jedi training from the wrinkled green alien Yoda. He then carries Yoda around like a backpack.

Hamill posted the photo on Twitter on Sunday in celebration of Ridley's birthday. His tweet indicates the photo was taken last week, giving us a rare peek into the proceedings at Pinewood Studios. A couple of tweets in February from Hamill and Carrie Fisher (General Leia) showed fans a couple of photogenic dogs hanging out on the set of "Episode VIII."

The Hamill/Ridley hijinks has inspired a series of photo manipulations, including images of Yoda added behind Hamill, the pair photoshopped onto Dagobah, and an altered photo that shrinks Hamill, turns him green and adds Yoda ears.

Hamill is an active Twitter user and he's not above teasing fans with potential spoilers while revealing nothing. In late March, a fan asked Hamill to describe "Episode VIII" in two words. His answer? "Non-disclosure agreement."
