Majority of Dell workers overseas

The majority of PC maker Dell's employees are located outside the United States, according to the company's annual report filed with securities regulators on Monday. In the report, the Round Rock, Texas-based company states that it has about 22,200 employees in the United States and another 23,800 outside the country. "Dell believes that its ability to attract and retain qualified personnel is critical to its success and achievement of its business plan," the company wrote in the filing.

Many tech companies have shipped jobs overseas, a practice called offshoring that has become a hot topic in a presidential election year. Last November, Dell said customer complaints had led it to stop sending U.S. technical support calls for two of its corporate computer lines to a Bangalore, India, call center.
