Dropbox makes it easy to share files with non-Dropbox users by sending a link to non-Dropbox users. But what if you'd like one of your non-Dropbox-using friends, parents, or business associates to send you a file to your Dropbox account? If you prefer receiving files via Dropbox versus, say, email or thumb drive, there is a way to do so without forcing that person to sign up for a Dropbox account. With Web app Dbinbox, you can get a unique URL to send to someone that will allow them to upload a file directly to your Dropbox account.
The process to acquire this unique URL is a simple one. Head to the Dbinbox Web site and enter user name, which will become the suffix to your Dbinbox URL, and click the button to link this link to your Dropbox account. Hop through two more screens -- to log into your Dropbox account and allow Dbinbox to create a folder -- and you'll be off and running. (Dbinbox creates a folder in the Apps folder in your Dropbox account.)
When you give someone your unique Dbinbox URL, they'll encounter a page where they can either drag files to upload or browse. The sender can also send along a message, which travels along with the files they are uploading as a TXT file.
Lastly, in settings you can password-protect your Dbinbox folder, which the app calls an access code.
