The LG Nexus 4 rumor hurricane is beginning to gain strength off the coast of Android-land. The latest word is that a new Google phone could make landfall October 29.

The source of this speculation is unusual -- a French paper not known for tech scoops -- but if nothing else, the product name cited by Le Figaro lines up with the name of the rumored phone we saw outed on Carphone Warehouse earlier.

Making the date all the more interesting is the fact that it overlaps with the start of the AllThingsD "Dive Into Mobile" conference in New York, where Google's head of Android, Andy Rubin, is slated to speak. In the past, Rubin has demonstrated new Android features at the conference.

So could we see Rubin showing off the new LG Nexus 4 with Android 4.2 Kandy Korn or Krispy Kreme or Key Lime Pie or whatever in New York less than three weeks from now? It's all just rumors at this point, but it does jibe with other tidbits we've heard, and it seems certain that a new Nexus phone based on the LG Optimus G is in our near future.

Like the Optimus G, the phone is expected to come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon quad-core processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, a 1,280x768 True-High Definition IPS display, an 8-megapixel camera, and a nonremovable battery. It will also have no microSD slot and only 8GB to 16GB of internal storage, according to Modaco.

There's also speculation out there that more than one Nexus phone might be in the works, from multiple manufacturers. Perhaps Google will even let its own phone-making shop, also known as Motorola, take a crack at one.
