Not all great detectives are male, British or have a Batmobile. Marvel confirmed that the "Breaking Bad" actress Krysten Ritter will take the lead in an all-new 13-episode series "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones," premiering on Netflix in 2015 after "Marvel's Daredevil."

Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, comic book character Jessica Jones debuted in the "Alias" comic series as a frustrated former superhero who had hung up her costume to become a private investigator.

According to her origin story, Jessica Jones was exposed to an experimental radioactive material when she got into tragic car accident along with her family. The material caused her to have powers such as superhuman strength and the ability to fly.

She took on the costumed alias of Jewel. Her superhero career took a dark turn when she was manipulated by the villain Purple Man into attacking her fellow heroes Daredevil and the Scarlet Witch. After she was rehabilitated by S.H.I.E.L.D., she rejected the superhero lifestyle and instead became a licensed private investigator, opening up her own firm called Alias Investigations.

"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," Jeph Loeb, executive producer and Marvel's head of television said on Marvel.com. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."

Ritter is best known for her TV roles in "Breaking Bad," "Veronica Mars" and "Gilmore Girls" as well her comedic lead role in "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23." She also starred in the films "Vamps," "Life Happens" and the upcoming "Big Eyes."

"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said on Marvel.com. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."

Ritter herself tweeted her excitement about bringing the female comic book heroine to the small screen.

"I am so completely over the moon & grateful for this opportunity to bring Jessica Jones to life!" Ritter tweeted. "Thank you Melissa Rosenberg, everyone at Marvel Netflix and all of my fans for your support! Wooo! Dream big kiddies!"

Jessica Jones was also a classmate of Peter Parker (Spider-Man) at Midtown High School. Marvel
