Kodak lines up new OLED licensee

Eastman Kodak announced Tuesday that it has lined up a new licensee for its organic light-emitting diode technology (OLED). Hong Kong-based Truly International Holdings will make and sell a version of Kodak's OLED technology. Truly is a manufacturer of liquid-crystal displays. OLED is viewed as the future leader in display technology for flat panels mainly because it doesn't require a backlight to brighten the screen. Instead, light-emitting materials become excited when stimulated by an electric charge.

Truly signed a royalty-bearing license from Kodak to use the OLED technology and purchase the materials needed to manufacture the displays.
