Donald Trump met with Kanye West on Tuesday, many wondered what each of them was trying to get us to forget.
Trump, after all, is embroiled in accusations that Russia was rather on his side in the election. He also
canceled a press conference set for Thursday, in which he was to reveal how he would handle his business affairs as president. He said he was too busy.
West had a recent stint in hospital, after some erratic behavior during a concert that
turned out to be an extremely short performance.
Immediately after the meeting with Trump, West wouldn't talk. Later on Tuesday, however, he returned to Twitter, where he hasn't been seen since October 21.
"I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues," he
tweeted. Note, not "Mr. Trump." Not "Donald Trump." This is odd, as the president-elect said they were old friends.
continued: "These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago."
All noble subjects. Some you might expect to be very close to Trump's heart, especially bullying. His wife has already said that as First Lady she
will fight cyberbullying.
West believes that meeting the president-elect
had a serious purpose: "I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want change."
This is wise. This is something many would want.
At heart, though, Kanye conceded there was an even higher purpose. "#2024," he
This, an indicator of his own future presidential run, was surely a disappointment to some. Kanye had previously
declared himself for 2020.
