Infogrames to buy "Matrix" game developer

Struggling game maker Interplay Entertainment announced Thursday that it will sell its Shiny Entertainment division, which is developing titles based on the movie "The Matrix," to French game publisher Infogrames. The company will pay $47 million in cash and notes to acquire the development studio, and with it rights to produces "Matrix" games. Interplay received a $5 million advance from Microsoft to produce a "Matrix" game for the company's Xbox console. Interplay has posted growing losses in the past year and received a delisting notice from the Nasdaq exchange a few months ago.
