Keeping your favorite devices' OS up to date can be a chore for anyone. Luckily, updating the OS on the BlackBerry PlayBook is fairly streamlined and easy to do. In this guide we will show you how to update your PlayBook OS.
If you aren't the type to keep up on daily tech news, you may not know the exact day an OS update has been released for your PlayBook. You may wake up one day and see a new icon on your home screen (as seen in the screen at the top of the post). This is the PlayBook's way of alerting you to an OS update. Simply click on Download, and follow the directions to update the OS, which should look similar to the rest of the post below.
However, if you are eager for each new OS update and want to randomly check for one, all you have to do is tap on the Settings icon from your home screen.
Find and tap on Software Updates in the column on the left, and then tap on the Check for Updates button to the right.
If there is a new OS available, you will see the build number as well as download size for the update. Click on the Download Now button (not pictured) to download the update. Notice that you can pause the download should you need to.
The downloads are usually fairly large and may take some time depending on your Internet connection. We recommend plugging in your PlayBook to charge during the download and installation process. Once the download has finished, you will be presented with an Install button. Tap on it to begin the installation.
If you are doing any type of work on the device, make sure to save and exit, as the PlayBook will be restarting during installation.
You will see a black screen with a progress bar like the picture above during the installation process. Once it is done installing, you will see a Restart button. Tap on it and let the PlayBook restart.
Congratulations, you have just updated your PlayBook's OS which is sure to squash some bugs, add some new ones and maybe even throw in a new feature or two.
