Holy supercut! Awesome video shows Batman's onscreen evolution

Journey from the "Bat's Cave" to present-day Gotham with the Dark Knight thanks to a new supercut by Vimeo user Jacob T. Swinney.

"In a chamber hewn from the living rock of the mountain is a strange, dimly lighted, mysteriously secret Bat's Cave.... hidden headquarters of America's No. 1 crime fighter. Batman. Yes, Batman."

That's how a new supercut made by Vimeo user Jacob T. Swinney begins. The 11-minute video traces the history of the Dark Knight on film, from his first silver-screen appearance in the 1943 serial "Batman," through to the Christopher Nolan blockbusters.

There's even a brief cameo from 2013's Lego Batman at the very end. And yes, the Batcave was called the "Bat's Cave" in those early serials.

The video not only offers up a great visual representation of Batman through the years, but gives a glimpse at how the Caped Crusader evolved as a character over time. The somber, brooding character in "The Dark Knight Rises" is certainly a long way off from Adam West's Batman in the 1966 movie who says with a heavy dose of comic relief, "Somedays, you just can't get rid of a bomb."

It's a great supercut tribute to a superhero who's been with us for more than 75 years and shows no signs of slowing down.
