Hell hath no fury like an avatar scorned

Woman in Japan is jailed after "killing" her virtual husband's digital avatar.

This is what all the fuss was about?

A Japanese woman murdered her husband after he suddenly divorced her. Nothing (sadly) strange or funny about that. What is strange is that this was not her real-life husband, but her husband in the MMORPG Maple Story, according to an Associated Press report. What's funny is that she only killed his online avatar, not the actual person.

The 43-year-old woman has been jailed under suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating data. She allegedly hacked into her "husband's" account after he divorced her in the game. Apparently she accessed his username and password, logged on, and killed/deleted his character. It's unclear exactly how she got rid of it.

Police officials in Japan said she had not plotted any revenge in the real world. "I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the police official quoted the woman as saying.

You know, I'd probably be pissed too if someone "divorced" me in a game I'd been taking a bit too seriously. I have to say though, that I would much rather be divorced than have my character that I've worked years developing suddenly deleted. Hmmm, maybe it's time they both got lives though.

Just for the record, I'm not saying that everyone who plays Maple Story has no life. Just most of you. Try a real game. I kid because I love.
