Handspring launches Treos in Asia

Handheld maker Handspring announced Tuesday that its latest Treo devices will be available in parts of Asia. The Treo 90 and Treo 270 will be available in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia starting this week. The Treo 270 is a combination cell phone and organizer with a color display. The device comes with 16MB of memory. The Treo 90 is similar in appearance to the Treo 270 but doesn't have a wireless radio for making cell phone calls. It comes with a color screen, version 4.1 of the Palm operating system, 16MB of memory and a built-in keyboard. The Treo 90 will also be the first Handspring device to use a Secure Digital expansion slot instead of the company's hallmark Springboard expansion slot. Handspring is working with a range of wireless carriers in the region including SmarTone, SingTel and Celcom, as well as GrandTech and its subsidiary PacRim.
