Get creative with iPhone videos using Montaj

Montaj enables you to create short videos, complete with filters and background music, in just a few minutes.

There's no question that photo apps are extremely popular on mobile devices, which is leading to an explosion in video apps. Twitter launched its own Vine app, which allows users to create 6-second films and share them across Twitter and Facebook.

Another app, Montaj, is aiming to give iPhone users another option when it comes to getting creative with short videos, albeit in a longer form than the 6-second videos you'll find in Vine. Users are able to create short videos; the default limit of clips in a Montaj is 12 (adjustable to 36 in the settings), all with a time limitation of 5 seconds each. That's exactly 1 minute worth of video for those keeping track at home.

The clips can be taken within the app, or through the native iOS camera app and then imported into Montaj, where they can then be trimmed to meet the time guidelines.

You'll have the option to add filters, music, and even voice-overs to the video once you've arranged the clips in your preferred order. Or you can opt for the app to shuffle the clips, putting them in a random order.

After creating a video, you can then share it within your Montaj stream, on Twitter or Facebook, or via e-mail. Should you rather keep the video to yourself, you can export it to your camera roll, along with the individual video clips if you chose to film within the app.

Montaj is free and available in the App Store right now. To get a sense of what kind of videos you can create, make sure to browse the Popular section within the app.
