Gateway taps new executives

Gateway on Tuesday hired four general managers--including two former executives from clothing retailer Gap--to run specific business units within the direct PC seller. Former Banana Republic boss William Parker will head Gateway's network of retail stores, while Monica Gout, previously a Gap Direct vice president, was tapped to head Gateway.com, the company's e-commerce effort. Also appointed as a general manager was John Engel, a former PerkinElmer executive, who will head the desktop PC unit. Scott Weinbrandt, previously an executive at Dell, will head Gateway's server effort.

The newly named executives will be in charge of the profit and loss associated with their various businesses, the company said in a statement. "Expect big things from this team," CEO Ted Waitt said in the statement. "They're going to make Gateway a better company for our customers, employees and shareholders."
