In HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," Daenerys Targaryen has had many names: Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Stormborn and the khaleesi, to name a few. But it's a pretty sure bet she's never been called Miss August.
As a "Game of Thrones" pinup girl in a new series of artwork by Russian artist Andrew Tarusov, though, the name could actually fit. ('Cause, you know, she went into the fire and came out again and August is the hottest month. Work with me here.)
Tarusov has recently completed a series of illustrations that not only reimagines Dany as a voluptuous pinup girl, but does the same for 12 other female characters from the show, including Sansa Stark, Ygritte, Brienne of Tarth and Cersei Lannister.
Tarusov told CNET's Crave blog that he has loved the pinup style of art since he was a child. He produces a new pinup calendar every year, and has successfully crowdfunded two of them thus far.
Pinup-girl artwork renders idealized versions of women in drawings that are meant to be displayed or "pinned up" on a wall. They were especially popular with soldiers during both World Wars, which makes them a good fit for the war-torn world of "Game of Thrones." You just have to imagine that the guys at the Wall up north would love to get their hands on a few of these to warm up the freezing walls of their barracks.
Tarusov says he'll be creating another series in which he renders some famous comic book gals in the pinup style next. Till then, have a look at the women of Westeros like you've never seen them before in the gallery below.
And, by the way, Tarusov doesn't only focus on women. He created a series of pinup guys for International Women's Day, which you can see here.
If you like Tarusov's work, you can support him through the site Patreon, which lets people donate a small amount of money every month to help their favorite artists keep working (and eating). For $5 per month (about £3, AU$6.50), you'll get high-resolution files that you could then turn into T-shirts or anything else you can adorn with artwork.
