Fujitsu, Motorola team on touch sensors

Fujitsu and Motorola will team up to develop a hardware package that brings fingerprint sensors to handheld computers, the companies announced Thursday. The package combines Motorola's Dragonball i.MX processor and Fujitsu's MBF200 solid-state fingerprint sensor. The slim MBF200 is protected with a hard, scratch-proof protective coating and has low battery consumption, according to Fujitsu.

Currently, the only widely available handheld with a fingerprint sensor is Hewlett-Packard's iPaq h5450. The h5450, however, uses a thermal sensor, rather than an optical one as found in the Motorola-Fujitsu package.
