Fujitsu intros new portable ScanSnap S1300i with Android and iOS device support

Fast, compact scanner has a USB power option and can send scanned documents to Android and iOS devices and cloud-based services.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i is available now for $295 (click to enlarge).

If you're thinking of getting rid of all that nasty paper clutter in your life, Fujitsu makes some of the better document scanners, including the new ScanSnap S1300i, which is compatible with both Windows and Mac PCs. It's available now for $295 list.

A while back I reviewed Fujitsu's bigger and more expensive S1500 and gave it high marks. Fujitsu touts this compact, relatively lightweight model (it weighs 3.1 pounds) as 1.5 times faster than its predecessor, the S1300 -- you can scan up to 12 double-sided color pages per minute -- and talks up its capability to scan to Android and Apple iOS devices and cloud-based services such as Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, SugarSync, and Salesforce Chatter.

Fujitsu has beefed up its scanning and document-management desktop software suite (a few of the new features seem to be available only to Windows users), and after earlier this year releasing the ScanSnap Connect app for iOS devices. An Android app has been added more recently.

The suite includes business-card software and ABBYY FineReader OCR software that quickly converts your printed words into editable Word and Excel files. Another nice feature is that while S1300i comes with an AC adapter, it can also be powered by USB, so you could hook it up to a laptop on the road and not bother with the power cord.

Fujitsu has a full selection of document scanners and the new S1300i is one of the smallest and more affordable models, sitting between the S1100 and S1500.
