The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may have put a dent in productivity in offices and schools across the country. Were you one of those afflicted with Call of Duty Cough?
This year, cold and flu season conveniently coincided with the November 13 launch day for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. A poll from IGN showed that one in four respondents planned to skip work or school to indulge in the new first-person shooter o its first day out.
A new option to live-stream Call of Duty gameplay on YouTube meant that work and school-skippers had to be a little more careful about hiding themselves in case their bosses were browsing YouTube Live and found them gunning down foes rather than crunching spreadsheets.
Playing hooky is, of course, a time-honored tradition. I once skipped school to go to the arcade at the mall, with an assist from my helpful stepmom at the time. I don't remember what I played, but I guarantee it was nowhere near as advanced, hyped, or powerful as Black Ops 2, which raked in $500 million in its first 24 hours.
