First glimpse shows fierce-looking Aquaman from 'Batman v Superman'

Following images of DC Comics heroes Superman and Wonder Woman, we get our first peek at Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis ahead of 2016's much-anticipated film.

Since his debut in 1941, Aquaman has generally been depicted as a blond-haired all-American type -- on the pages of comics, in cartoons and in the short-lived TV show from 2006. A tweet from Zack Snyder, the director of next year's " Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie however, hints that the way we perceive the DC Comics character is about to change.

The image, which was posted last night by Snyder, shows a much more brooding King of Atlantis than we've seen before. That's no surprise, considering the role will be played by Hawaiian actor Jason Momoa, best known as Khal Drogo, the ferocious leader of the Dothraki people in " Game of Thrones."

And what about the "Unite The Seven" line that appears in the image? That seems to refer to the formation of the Justice League: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, the Flash and, more than likely, the Green Lantern.

Although it's been noted that Aquaman will probably have only a small role in the "Batman v Superman" movie, he is set to get his very own feature film in 2018. That means Momoa will have to lay off the fish and chips and keep himself in ripping good shape at least for another few years. After all, he doesn't have much armor to protect himself with, now does he?
