Last month "Parks and Recreation" actor and craftsman Nick Offerman made a convincing argument to get back to a more old-fashioned way of communication in an amusing fake infomercial for solid oak emojis on "Conan."
"It's time we got back to a more old-fashioned, more personal and more American way of communication," Offerman said in his faux infomercial. "That's why I'm proud to introduce my new line of handcrafted, solid wood emojis."
The fake commercial went viral, and fans were demanding Offerman sell his stylish physical emoji symbols made from the finest woods for real. So Conan O'Brien is selling solid wood emojis for real.
Since the first run of charity emojis sold out in less than 19 minutes, Conan is making an additional 500 wooden emojis for sale on Tilt.com.
Donate $100 (which converts to about £65 or AU$120) to receive a fine 2-inch thick solid pine emoji, in the design of your choice: Smiley Face, Heart Eyes ("I love you"), The Wink, The Cat, or the always popular Pile of Poo. All proceeds after production and shipping costs go to the Children's Defense Fund.
Plus the first 500 people to order get the official Andy Richter "Certificate Of Reluctant Philanthropy," which shows that Conan's sidekick Andy Richter is against giving all the proceeds to charity. Apparently, he wanted a boat.
The handcrafted emojis are carved out of solid, high-quality wood. They are approximately one foot in diameter and weigh three pounds.
Shipping anywhere in the US is free, but buyers located outside the US will be asked to pay an additional $16 (about £10 or AU$20) to cover delivery. Shipping is expected to take place in the first week of January 2015.
