Some fans would like to see the surviving Stark family members and the rest of the Game of Thrones cast get a different ending.

If Justice League can get a remake years after its original release, why not Game of Thrones? Inspired by a new season 8 trailer released April 6, some fans are urging HBO to somehow rejigger the controversial final season of the blockbuster fantasy show.

Game of Thrones , based on George R.R. Martin's book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, was the talk of TV for nearly a decade before ending in 2019. But since Martin (still) hasn't finished the book series, things got a little creative near the end -- and not all fans approved. So when HBO started plugging the 10th anniversary of Game of Thrones, and the network's plan to re-air all eight seasons, some fans saw an opportunity to suggest a GoT remake.

"If you can give Zack Snyder $100 million for Justice League, u can remake season 8," one Twitter user wrote.

Said another, "They gave Zack Snyder 70 something million bucks to 'fix' Justice League. Fix season 8. You could probably do it in three episodes."

Fans used HBO's tweet hyping the teaser to lash out at the show's unsatisfying ending, with one writing, "Never before have I seen a series nose-dive so hard and be abandoned by its fans and viewers. I'm currently rewatching the show and it physically hurts to know how unrewarding the finale is. If y'all can revive this franchise, it would be a miracle."

Heck, even the Twitter account for Steak-umm, the packaged meat product, got involved, tweeting, "Season 8 remake when."

Fans are taking inspiration from Zack Snyder's Justice League, which is now streaming on HBO Max. Director Zack Snyder left the film early due to his daughter's death, and the version directed by Joss Whedon didn't cut it with some viewers. A years-long fan campaign, and a reported $70 million from HBO Max, helped the director piece together his vision of the film.

But will that happen for Game of Thrones? It doesn't seem likely. HBO has moved on, with a Game of Thrones successor series, House of the Dragon, expected in 2022. Then again, there's surely plenty of cutting-room-floor footage from the eight seasons, and there was a time when the Snyder Cut seemed as unlikely as a Cersei-Tyrion sitcom. Winter may be coming, but perhaps it'll be a different winter next time.
