'Indiana Jones 5' Trailer Revealed, Harrison Ford Says It 'Will Kick Your Ass'
Harrison Ford is playing the man with the hat for the fifth time, and D23 attendees got the first look on Saturday.
Indiana Jones is still exploring shadowy caves in the unnamed fifth movie.
Harrison Ford is bringing Indiana Jones back for a fifth movie adventure on June 30, 2023. Lucasfilm gave audiences a first look at how digital technology will make the man in the hat look younger than Ford's 80 years at Disney's D23 Expo 2022 on Saturday.
The trailer hasn't yet appeared online, but the footage is spectacular and classically Indy -- one of the most memorable moments sees him whipping wildly at a group of goons, who respond by pulling out guns and opening fire on our hapless hero. It's a clear riff of the iconic moment where Indy casually shoots the swordsman in Raiders of the Lost Ark, except Indy manages to duck out of the way here.
"Indiana Jones movies are about fantasy and mystery, but they're also about heart," Ford said from the stage alongside director James Mangold and co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. "We have a really great story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass."
"I'm very proud to say that this one is fantastic," Ford said, pointing at Waller-Bridge and adding, "And this is one of the reasons."
The trailer gives us over first look at Waller-Bridge in the movie. Known for Fleabag and 2018 Star Wars spinoff Solo, she's playing Jones' goddaughter Helena, producer Frank Marshall revealed in tweet Sunday. It's possible she's the daughter of Marcus Brody, an old friend of Jones who died before Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (he was played by the late Denholm Elliott).

It also shows the return of John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, Mads Mikkelsen's Nazi villain, Indy riding a horse through the New York City subway and a chase that takes place in a tickertape parade in the streets of Manhattan.
Produced by Steven Spielberg, the fifth Indy movie also stars Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.
We got our the first look at the film at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim back in May, showing that unmistakable silhouette on a rope bridge in a shadowy cave. The film was originally scheduled for release in 2019, but pandemic delays pushed it back to summer 2023. At that point, Ford will be just shy of his 81st birthday.
Also at D23, Ford also reunited with Temple of Doom costar Ke Huy Quan 38 years after the movie's release. Quan was at the convention because he's appearing in season 2 of Marvel series Loki, which is scheduled to hit Disney Plus next summer.
