Apple lays Foundation for TV series based on Isaac Asimov's epic novels
Asimov's most influential work will become a 10-episode series co-created by Dark Knight writer David Goyer.

Isaac Asimov's Foundation series is coming to Apple's planned streaming service.
Apple has ordered an original drama series based on science fiction writer Isaac Asimov's seminal Foundation series.
The series comes from Skydance Television, which is responsible for other shows such as Amazon's Jack Ryan as well as Netflix's Grace and Frankie and Altered Carbon. It'll be created by Josh Friedman, the man behind Terminator series The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and David Goyer, co-writer of the Dark Knight movies and various other superhero flicks.
Foundation, begun as a series of short stories in 1942, was the first novel in a massive universe that stretches across two sequels, Foundation & Empire and Second Foundation, along with numerous in-universe short stories and sequels. The premise, put as simply as possible with such a massive and influential series, deals with the preservation of knowledge prior to an oncoming dark age.
Various movie studios have wrestled for decades with the possibility of adapting Foundation. Most recently, Westworld creator Jonathan Nolan was reported to be working on a Foundation series for HBO. But the story will finally appear on Apple's planned streaming services to rival Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. So far Apple has also recruited Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, M. Night Shyamalan, Damien Chazelle and Steven Spielberg to create original content.
