Internet service provider EarthLink has extended its wireless e-mail and Internet service so that it can be used with devices running Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating system. EarthLink's services can now be used on certain models of HP iPaq and Jornada devices, as well as on Palm Vx and m500 series devices and Handspring Visor handhelds. With EarthLink's service, device owners can access e-mail and surf Web sites.
The company is offering promotions on the price of modems used with the devices to access EarthLink's service as well as on the monthly fees associated with the service. The promotions vary depending on the type of device. Monthly service fees range from $40 to $60 per month, and the modem is free in most cases with a 12-month service commitment. EarthLink plans to add new location-based services to its Pocket PC service in the coming months, according to the company.
