EA calls out top "Madden" players

Leading games publisher Electronic Arts announced it is holding a nationwide tournament to determine the masters of its "Madden NFL" football game. Players will compete over the next two months in tournaments in San Francisco; Los Angeles; Seattle; Philadelphi; New York; Chicago; Atlanta; Tampa, Fla.; and Washington, D.C. EA will fly the top contenders to Jamaica for a final showdown in January.

Football has emerged as one of the most lucrative and competitive niches in the games business, and "Madden" has been the top-seller for many years. Details and registration are available through the "Madden Challenge" Web site. Entrants must make a $5 donation to the National Football League's YET youth charity to participate in the regional contests.
