DirecTV signs sports-arena deal

Satellite TV provider DirecTV has signed a deal to become a so-called flagship partner at the American Airlines Center, the new home of the Dallas Stars hockey team and the Dallas Mavericks basketball team. As part of an agreement, DirecTV will provide more than 600 TV sets, including 180 with plasma screens, and more than 230 DirecTV receivers. Each of the Dallas arena's 142 luxury suites will feature a 42-inch plasma-screen TV that offers satellite channels. DirecTV is a unit of General Motors-owned Hughes Electronics. The American Airlines Center will open July 27 and hold 20,000 people.
