Details revealed in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' behind-the-scenes reel

Episode VII is still months away, but a new look at the filming of the latest Star Wars movie makes it feel a bit like Christmas in July.

Nerd news has been flooding out of San Diego Comic-Con like it's the end of an ice age on the planet Kamino, but few things get me as geek-giddy as a little Star Wars behind-the-scenes action.

The below reel of on-set moments and brief cast interviews includes a few new delicious details about what we can expect from the upcoming Episode VII, " Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Watch closely and you'll notice Simon Pegg is absolutely delighted to be playing a costumed alien character of some sort, and we finally get to see Carrie Fisher on set reprising Leia and Peter Mayhew donning the Chewbacca mask again.

There's emphasis in the video, as there was at Comic-Con panels with director J.J. Abrams and other members of the cast and crew, on how many of the effects in the film are real rather than digital -- the production stresses keeping "one foot" in the canon's predigital roots.

That said, we're also treated to new and improved versions of our favorite droids, stormtroopers, TIE Fighters and the return of the Millennium Falcon, complete with a new pilot.

Check it out for yourself, it's almost awesome enough to make you forget Jar-Jar Binks ever happened.
