Decorating a Christmas tree with projection tech (Tomorrow Daily 287)

Jeff discusses one design studio's high-tech Christmas tree decorations and how tiny LED lights inside brains might help researchers learn more about neurological disorders.

Media art and design studio Ambos released a video showing off their Christmas tree decorating skills, but there were no garlands, lights or Star Wars ornaments to be found. Instead, they made a 3D render of their tree, mapped out a light show, and projected some beautiful decorations onto the tree. The result is a gorgeous tree that won't take a whole day to break down once Christmas is over.

The University of Michigan recently released a paper detailing an interesting creation: a tiny LED light that can activate a single neuron in the brain. Combined with a large matrix that can keep tabs on activity, the hope is to see how specific neurons fire in various situations, and then use that information to help researchers understand neurological disorders like ALS and Parkinson's better (which would then hopefully lead to better treatments).
