Dating site offers free divorces

SugarDaddie.com, which is exactly what you think it is, offers free divorces in several cities. Because leaving your spouse is just so expensive.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose.

Business is business.

And if you run a site called SugarDaddie.com, you're in the business of bringing the mature and self-confident together with older people who merely act as if they're mature.

SugarDaddie's motto is: "Where the classy, attractive and affluent meet." Yes, it's precisely what the brand name tells you it is.

Sometimes, though, there are obstacles to the classy and attractive meeting the affluent. Pesky things like one party or the other being married. (Usually the affluent one.)

Or that one party goes to bed at 9 o'clock, while the other one wants to party till dawn.

SugarDaddie would like to help. So it's offering free divorces.

How novel that a site devoted to bringing people together would also make it easier to tear people asunder.

The promotion first began in Sacramento, Calif., but now, cities across the country are excited to be involved.

Here's DNA Chicago celebrating that city's inclusion Thursday. And the New Jersey Star-Ledger was enthralled Wednesday that northern New Jersey was also to be included.

Phoenix and Philadelphia are among the lucky locales too.

SugarDaddie's CEO Steven Pasternack told DNA Chicago that his one goal was to "help people gain real independence in their lives."

Divorce in some cities can be terribly expensive. Why, in Chicago it is said divorce lawyers charge almost $300 an hour. This explains entirely why some unhappy Illinois couples stay together.

I should add that there are riders to SugarDaddie's offer of freedom to ride off into the sunset.

Only three couples in each area will be the lucky winners. And they must agree to the basics of the divorce settlement. You know, pesky things such as who gets how much money and who gets the children when.

Moreover, the divorce package being offered is through LegalZoom. I am sure this is a very fine divorce package, but from my observation it only costs $299.

One might imagine, therefore, that the affluent, older part of the exciting new couple might be willing to cover that cost.

At Technically Incorrect, we believe in a thing called love.

So we hope that the lure of a free divorce (value $299) doesn't sway the affluent or the classy and attractive to make hasty (and cheap) decisions based on another four letter word beginning with "L."

That word would be "loot."
