Prometheus. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Doctor Who. We've always assumed these effects were CGI — until we saw this showreel by animatronics master Gustav Hoegen.
We thought a skinless Predator head was unsettling — but that was before we saw the showreel of animatronic designer Gustav Hoegen. You have probably seen his work without realising it: his credits include Clash of the Titans (the remake), Prometheus, Doctor Who, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
We have to say that, for sheer creepiness factor, his creations have the Predator beat. Watching the tiny motions that he's programmed into his robots to accurately mimic real movements and facial expressions is an unsettling experience — even with the skin on.
