Companies win EPA awards
Several tech companies are among the winners of EPA's Energy Star awards announced Tuesday. Chipmaker Intel won an award for leading the drive to develop Instantly Available PC, a specification that can decrease PC power consumption by up to 70 percent, compared with traditional systems. For the third year in a row, consumer electronics giant Panasonic received a 2001 Energy Star Partner of the Year for developing energy-saving electronics and electrical products. Advanced Micro Devices, a chipmaker, received a certificate of recognition for technical innovation. AMD was recognized for several products, including its Low Voltage and Super Low Voltage Flash devices. Some of these, when in sleep and standby modes, consume up to 99 percent less energy than competing products.
