It's the real-life love story Star Wars fans have been waiting 40 years to hear.

Carrie Fisher revealed on Tuesday that she and Harrison Ford enjoyed an "intense" three-month affair on the original Star Wars set in 1976.

"It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend," she told People.

The two first got together following a birthday party thrown for the film's director, George Lucas. At the time Fisher was just 19 and Ford was a 33-year-old married father of two. The romance reached a natural conclusion as the film wrapped.

Fisher has written about the affair in her upcoming autobiography "The Princess Diarist".

"I looked over at Harrison. A hero's face -- a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow," she writes in the book. "How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?"
