There's too much angst in online dating.
Will she reply? Will he swipe left, rather than right? Is he married with four kids, as opposed to single with none that he knows of? Can she possibly look as good as those pictures?
The criteria we choose for selecting our mates are blighted by our desperate reach for perfection. We need to relax a little and accept that the perfect mate doesn't exist. At least not the perfect sober mate.
This is where a dating site that's been "cultivating since January 2014" comes in. It's called My420mate.com and its aim is to let love grow in an entirely laid-back atmosphere. This is a site where cannabis lovers can find their own cannabis lovers.
The site explains its purpose like this: "The key to finding someone special is finding shared interests and someone who is accepting of your lifestyle. For many 420singles, finding that special someone can be challenging."
This is so true. Finding someone who is accepting of your lifestyle is one of the most difficult things on Earth. For example, leaving the toilet seat up is a lifestyle choice that few women understand. Being clean is a lifestyle choice that many men, too, fail to grasp.
The site explains that the pain of "having the conversation" can be considerable: "For those who are into online dating, it can be awkward to bring up the 'So...do you smoke pot?' conversation. At what point should you bring it up? How much time should you put into the relationship before you talk about this? What if you tell your potential partner that you smoke pot and they run for the hills?"
It guarantees, therefore, that everyone on My420Mate.com is extremely 420-positive.
I worry, though. One of the main characteristics of dating sites is the propensity of people to exaggerate, lie, obfuscate, and generally use subterfuge to gain carnal favors.
How can any stoner be sure that the member of his target sex who claims to be cool with cannabis passes the smell test?
And might there not be a temptation for the forces of law and order to infiltrate sites like this just, you know, to make up their arrest quotas?
You see, I'm worrying too much already. When it comes to love, seek it in all places, even if it means leaving no stoner unturned.
