CNET Update starts the countdown:
Mark the calendar on January 30. That's when Research in Motion will launch the next BlackBerry phones. Also in Monday's tech news roundup:
- Facebook is testing out new features. Some users can reply directly to someone's comment on a post, according to Mashable. And VentureBeat reports Facebook is also testing notification sounds.
- A preview of the Skype app for Windows Phone 8 is now available to download.
- YouTube will cut funding to about half of the original shows it backed last year, according to Ad Age.
- Apple and HTC have ended two years of bitter patent disputes. The companies agreed to a 10-year joint licensing agreement for all current and future patents. Although financial details were not released, one analyst estimates Apple will be getting about $6 to $8 in fees for every HTC phone sold.
- Looking ahead to Tuesday, expect to hear more about the Droid DNA. HTC was expected to announce the Droid DNA at a New York event on Tuesday, but Verizon accidentally published a website confirming its existence (and then took it down). CNET will be live blogging the Droid DNA announcement, which starts at 8 a.m. Pacific, 11 a.m. Eastern. Also on Tuesday, there's a report that Microsoft may release a preview version of Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7.
