'Batman v Superman' goes retro with Adam West, Christopher Reeve

The dark and foreboding atmosphere of the new "Batman v Superman" trailer gets lightened up a little with some classic superhero footage.

There seems to be a new four-part process that precedes movie releases in the 21st century. First, a teaser trailer is released. Second, the actual trailer is leaked online. Third, the official trailer is released. And fourth, the trailer parodies begin.

We've now reached that fourth stage for Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which is due to be released on March 25, 2016. YouTube user Bobby Burns wasted no time in getting his trailer parody out there; he released it the same day the official trailer from Warner Bros. Pictures debuted online.

In his parody, we hear the exact same soundtrack that accompanied the real trailer -- people fretting over Superman's powers -- but in this cut, Burns intersperses footage from the Superman films starring Christopher Reeve, which kicked off in 1978, along with scenes from the "Batman" TV series of the 1960s starring Adam West.

The two-minute-clip works really well and is a dramatic illustration of just how far both superhero franchises have evolved. My favorite illustration of the camp of the old Batman series juxtaposed with the new "Dark Knight" take on the Caped Crusader comes at about 1:40 when the old logo and sound bite from the original "Batman" TV series spins into view right after Ben Affleck's "Dawn of Justice" Batman asking the Kryptonian if he bleeds. Classic indeed.
