Avengers: Infinity War? Don't get attached to that title

Two major movies for Marvel's Avengers franchise are on the horizon. Until now, they've been called "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1" and "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2." No surprise, the filmmakers realized those are really boring names.

Is it Star Wars day? Let's talk about Marvel instead.

This is a big week for the Avengers movie franchise as "Captain America: Civil War" heads to theaters following a week of positive reviews and a strong showing overseas. Marvel has proven that even after 12 movies, five TV shows, four short films, six video games and 22 comic tie-ins, these characters and storylines can still be exciting and fresh. "It's a big old Marvel party and we're all invited," wrote CNET's Richard Trenholm in his spoiler-free review.

So now fans are already looking forward to the franchise's climactic films -- yes, these intricate storylines will actually come to a close. The latest news on them is that Marvel has rethought their planned titles, 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1" and 2019's "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2."

You might think those utilitarian film names are awe-inspiring in and of themselves. They might even be enough to pull out your wallet and throw money at any theater showing the film. But Marvel's not taking any chances.

"The intention is we will change it, we just haven't come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it," Captain America director Joe Russo told Uproxx, and confirmed by one of his agents. Russo, who will co-direct the upcoming films with his brother Anthony, later added, "we will retitle them" just to be clear.

Perhaps they'll change the names to include all the characters so that people know it's a big-honking Avenger's film?

How about: "Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Star Lord, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Ant-Man and A Bunch Of Other Heroes Beat the Snot of Something - Part 1."

That one's for free, Marvel.
