Thankfully, Google's fine designers have leaped to the task.
No sooner had NASA's New Horizons probe reached Pluto than Google on Tuesday revealed its artistic impression.
It's a simple doodle. The second "O" of Google is turned into Pluto. Then a probe flies by in metronomic rhythm, over and over again.
NASA's New Horizons probe made its closets pass by Pluto -- coming within 7,800 miles of the surface -- at around 4:50 a.m. PT on Tuesday. The probe was launched in 2006 on a mission to study Pluto and its moons.
Those with sensitive eyes will note that Google's depiction of Pluto includes the mysterious heart-shaped area first noticed by NASA last week.
Is this a symbol from the Plutonians, telling us that they've long admired our culture and that for them our arrival is like Valentine's Day?
Was it created by million of "little" Plutonians standing in strict formation like bands before college football games or children at Olympics opening ceremonies?
I wonder if we'll ever know.
