Aibo to protect Smithsonian

Sony announced Wednesday that its first-generation robot dog, the Aibo ERS-110, is being added to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Behring Center. Released in June 1999, the 5,000 initial units sold for $2,000 each. Amanda Pehlke of Seattle donated her Aibo, named Toshi, to the Smithsonian because its represents the first robot that found its way into American homes. Toshi will be placed in the robotic collection of the Smithsonian and will join Sony's other Smithsonian resident in the museum, a Walkman.
