WD My Passport slim
Dong Ngo here and this is the all new My Passport Slim from WD, but before we get to it now take a look.
I have a bunch of coins here, all 11 of them.
Now WD have made a lot of drives into My Passport family and as far as I know the Slim right here is the 12th.
So here we go.
That is the full dozen.
Now the reason I used the coin is not just because there are so many drives I cannot use
my fingers anymore or because I work in San Francisco and my office is surrounded by homeless people.
There's one more reason.
While coins are made of metal and the new drive here is also made of full metal casing.
Now that makes a drive not just sturdy and very rugged but also very good looking.
Now take a look.
It has a very nice shiny metallic top here and on the bottom even though it looks like plastic.
Just by all that the drive is still very light just less than 6
Now this is a portable external burst power hard drive and what does it mean.
Well over here you can see there is a micro-USB 3.0 port right here.
You use the port with this included USB cable and that's all you need to plug the drive into a computer.
Nothing else needed.
Out of the box the drive worked immediately with Windows computer, but it can also be very easily reformatted to work with a Mac.
Once plugged in you can see the drive is preloaded with a lot of software
including the WD SmartWare Pro.
Now this is one of the most easy-to-use and effective backup solution for home users.
While designed for USB 3.0 the drive here also worked with USB 2.0, and in my testing it offers very fast performance, up to 110 megabytes per second with USB 3.0 and some 40 megabytes per second with USB 2.0.
That's one of the fastest on the market for the drive of this type.
You know I find the drive here totally worth its suggested price of
$100 for 1 terabyte which is available now or $150 for 2 terabytes which comes out later this year.
For more on the drive here check out my full review at CNET.com or go and get one.
I almost want to bet all these quarters here that you will love it, but it makes no sense.
So do what you always do.
Take my word for it that's because I'm Dong Ngo and this has been the First Look at the My Passport Slim from WD.
