Networking Quick Tips
Tips and tricks for using less data on iOS 7There's a good chance you are no longer on an unlimited data plan. These easy-to-follow tips will help prevent you from going over your monthly limit and being forced to pay big bucks to your carrier.
More and more carriers these days are getting rid of unlimited data. With the majority of people now in tiered or share data plans were becoming more aware of how much surfing or streaming we do on our devices. Go over your monthly limit can cost you big bucks. But iOS 7 can prevent certain apps from using all of your data. To do this, enter settings, click on the cellular options and scroll at the bottom of the page. So here you'll be able to see how much data each app uses and decide whether or not you want to have access to your network. This could be a good idea for apps you rarely use outside of your house or if you're getting close to your monthly limit rather than completely cutting an app off from your network. Another option is to disable apps from refreshing in the background. This can be done by going to settings, followed by general and selecting the background app refresh option. From here you can choose to disable all or certain apps you wish to no longer refresh or use things like location services in the background. As an edit bonus, disabling this feature could also help preserve battery life. For more tips like these, visit howto.cnet.com. For CNET, I'm Dan Graziano.
