This smart mirror puts Alexa at your bathroom sink
This year Kohler embarked on a mission to bring smart technology into the bathroom with the Kohler connect line of fixtures for the smart home.
The 145 year old companies new line includes the Verdara voice lighted mirror with Amazon Alexa built in.
It comes in 3 widths and the 34 inch model I tested here, at the CNET Smart home, cost $1,200.
All the smart components for the Verdera Voice mirror are housed in a control module beneath the mirror's bottom edge.
that's also where you'll find the mirror's dual front facing microphones and touch controls to adjust speaker volume and lighting level.
[INAUDIBLE] The two speakers sit just behind the mirror's edge, sealed in an air tight housing to protect from water damage.
Two vertical LEDs are integrated into the outer panels of the mirror's trifold design.
There's also a night light function and a motion sensor to brighten the nightlight when someone steps in front of the mirror.
It's great for seeing your sink in the dark, but it isn't really enough light to illuminate most bathrooms.
Like an echo device, you'll see a blue light illuminate when you trigger the voice assistant with a wake word.
You can perform all the standard voice commands of an echo device as well as control the mirrors lighting level.
The color connect ap also controls the mirrors lighting and has pre-sets called experiences For integrating with Kohler's other upcoming smart home products.
The [UNKNOWN] is the first Kohler product to have Amazon Alexa built in, but it doesn't work with any other voice assistants.
And it's also expensive.
You could buy a $50 Echo Dot and a more affordable LED integrated mirror, but you'd be missing the seemless integration, adding cords and taking up space on your bathroom counter.
If you're committed to an Echo-centered smart home and willing to splurge on a high end bathroom mirror Kohler's Verdera Voice Lighted Mirror is the one for you.
