CNET First Look
The Linksys EA9500 router is huge, really hugeIf you have $400 to burn and a large home, CNET editor Dong Ngo recommends this humongous router that is the EA9500 from Linksys.
[MUSIC] Hi guys, this is the EA9500 Max-Stream tri-band router from Linksys. Now, it's huge. You really need a big home before getting it, because otherwise it would not, literally, fit through the door. Now, it's huge because one of the most powerful routers on the market with the combined Wi-Fi bandwidth of 5300 megabits per second. Rivaling this RT-AC5300 from ASUS right here. Now both of then share the same number of antenna which is more than I can count but the Linksys here actually have eight gigabyte LAN port and the ASUS here has only [UNKNOWN] More ports mean you plug more devices into your network before having to buy a switch. As for the Wi-Fi, the router is really super fast in my testing with a top sustained real world speed of some 700 mega bits per second. Keep in mind that I tested it with client that has ceiling speed much lower than those of the router. Why? Well because there was no faster Wi-Fi plan on the market. That said, the router high Wi-Fi specs are only for show for now, and make it future proof. Now the Linksys here has excellent range of [UNKNOWN] too, and chances are its WiFi network can cover a large home. But in case it doesn't, it now supports Seamless Roaming, meaning if you use a Max-Stream Wi-Fi Extender with it If we make the extended Wi-Fi network the one with the original one allowing devices to move from one to another without any interruption. Now other than that, the EA9500 here has similar feature set as other router from Linksys smart Wi-Fi family. One thing of note though, is parental control can actually block HTTPS websites. And that means that if you want to keep your children away from Facebook, you can. So, if you have $400 to [UNKNOWN], this is a great router. As long as you can handle its size. By the way, the thing that is so huge, Linksys want to call it the Dom Router. But for that, it's still not big enough. You see, I have to get a second one, but that's only because I'm Dom [UNKNOWN].
