The Asus ZenBook 3 is the MacBook alternative Windows fans have been waiting for
When is a MacBook not a MacBook?
How about when it looks and feels just like Apple's little 12 inch wonder, but it runs Windows instead.
For years, PC makers have been making and selling laptops that have a striking resemblance to various MacBooks.
Sometimes it's a subtle homage, other times it's a quite literal attack of the clone.
Well now there is a new contender for most Mac Book lite and it's called Asus Zenbook 3. It's close to a total clone at least on the outside of Apple's minimalist 12 inch Macbook.
But under the aluminum chassis this ambitious slim laptop trades the mid tier Intel processors.
For a low voltage core I7.
But the Zenbook 3 also shares some of the Macbook's weaknesses, specifically a very shallow keyboard that's not really conducive to long form typing and an extremely limited connection options which consist of a single.
USB C port and a head phone jack because nobody is taking the head phone jack in a laptop yet.
While single USB C port is very minimalist.
Kudos to Asus for including a mini dock in the box.
This small unit connects to that lone USB-C port and offers an HDMI out, USB-A port and another USB-C for charging while you're using the dock.
Apple will sell you something similar for about $80.
And while they're very similar, this ZenBook has a deep blue color with a circular brush pattern on the back of the lid that helps differentiate from the MacBook a bit.
But Colors and patterns aside, they really could be separated-at-birth twins.
