Sony XBR-55HX929A first look at the Sony XBR-55HX929 television from CES 2011.
Hi, I'm Sharon Vaknin for CNET.com here with a first look at the Sony XBR-HX929. It comes in a 46- and 55-inch model which should be out in the spring and a 65-inch model which should come out a little bit later. It features a full-array local-dimming LED so that means that you're not only getting dimming and brightening around the edges but across the entire screen which means better blacks, better contrast and overall picture quality. Now, last year's model featured something called the BRAVIA 3 Engine but this year, it's the X-Reality PRO Engine which means that you get improved image quality on internet videos and your higher quality HD videos. Another thing about the X-Reality PRO Engine is the production of the ideal picture so, for instance, cogs don't have squared off edges, they have smooth round edges so the TV corrects for that, and it also has BRAVIA Internet Video and Widget so you have services like YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu that stream over Wi-Fi. It also includes 35 other service providers. There's also a simple web browser but don't count on it for doing serious research. It's just for looking up YouTube videos or simple text. It also has Skype but there's no built-in webcam, you have to buy the Skype accessory. There's no pricing available right now but Sony says it should be similar to last year's model which was the HX909, and we should expect it to come out in the late spring. For CNET.com, I'm Sharon Vaknin.
