Sony Ericsson Equinox
[ Background music ] >> Kent German: Hi I'm Kent German Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Sony Ericsson Equinox, also called the T7 717. This is a new phone for T-Mobile service. Last time we saw a Sony Ericsson with T-Mobile it was the TM 506. This looks about the same. It's got a nice thin design, a little boxy looking, very smooth on the front. Still this phone does show a few differences. On the front it has a hidden external display so that means that when the back lighting is off you can't see it. Camera lens is right here, there is no flash. Now we all know that Sony Ericsson likes its proprietary connections and a couple of phones we've seen recently they've moved away from that but this phone is very Sony Ericsson and very Sony for that matter. It does have the proprietary headset and charger jack on this side so that means you can only use one of those peripherals at a time. You'll need some kind of adaptor if you want to use your own headset. Also Sony Ericsson uses the memory stick micro for a memory card in this phone it's a little bit of a pain in fact I didn't even have a memory stick micro card sitting around to remove the photo from the phone I had to go find one. Here on this side there's a volume rocker. It is pretty small but it'd be nice if it were a little bigger. Open up the phone. Inside nice internal display. Sony Ericsson usually does a good job with these. It's pretty bright and colorful. Menus are easy to use they just have a standard icon based design. Keypad buttons and navigation controls are flat, keys felt a little bit slippery and really when you're running your fingers over them there's not a lot of definition so you just want to be mindful when you're dialing and texting what key you're actually pressing. Features are pretty mid range but high resolution camera, Bluetooth there is PC synching, USB mass storage, personal organizer, includes a speaker phone and a megapixel camera.
