Samsung Messager III (MetroPCS)Though the Samsung Messager III has an updated design over its predecessors, it also has a downgraded feature and some performance issues. As such, it's a case of one step forward, two steps back.
Hi, I'm Ken Sherman, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a first look at the Samsung Messager 3. This is a phone from MetroPCS Service. The Messager 3 looks a lot different from the previous two. I do like it the most, I think. Just looks a little more modern, like the curved ends and like the slim profile. So, does get points there. But really the story about this phone is it's sort of one step forward and a couple steps back. For some reason, Samsung decided to go in and take megapixels away from the camera. You should add, of course, or at least keep in the same, definitely add don't subtract. So I'm a little disappointed there. It is a 1.3 megapixel camera. It does a fine job, it's not that it's bad. But I just don't understand the lower resolution. Most of the other features are about the same. You'll find Messaging, of course, so it can work with text and multimedia messaging. You'll be able to do email, instant messaging. So, really basic midrange features designed for messaging. I do like the keyboard a lot. It is spacious. Texting by feel may be a little difficult. But I didn't find myself making a lot of mistakes since there's just so much room there. Not a lot of shortcut keys [unk] to see, I don't know, maybe something for the camera, maybe for something to take me directly to the messaging feature. Display is pretty standard, shows colors, [unk] photos, graphics, they look decent. Navigation array is really roomy, I do like it. There's a lot of room. Keypad button's a little cramped. They are raised above the surface of the phone, which is nice. But they are small and also the numbers and letters on the keys are a little small. So, [unk] you wanna check out the phone first. Overall, I think it does a good job of communication. Call quality had a few issues, but it is fine for messaging and for just basic communication. I'm Ken Sherman and this is the Samsung Messager 3.
