Recore is Mega Man Meets Metroid PrimeGameSpot's Mike Mahardy and Tamoor Hussain chat over their time with Microsoft exclusive Recore at Gamescom 2016.
[MUSIC] Hey guys I'm [UNKNOWN] at Gamescon 2016. I am joined by Mike Mahardy. How's it going Mike? Good, Tamoor. We just played Recore, right? The both of us. Yeah right. I played it before actually you have a more updated version of it. So I saw the combat, I'm familiar with the combat. You've seen new mechanics to Yeah they showed up in an early mission in the campaign. It kind of highlights the game's Metroid Prime influences. What the developers from Metroid Prime coming over to Recore to help out [INAUDIBLE] and the rest of the team. A shout out to Metroid Prime influences are playing into the semi open world that's kind of gated by certain abilities you have to get. And then you'll be back tracking. There's also a loop vest. Kind of aspect. Yeah, they've been eluding to that for awhile, like the core and customizing them but, thus far they've not really talked about it. What do they actually show you is there any sort of depth to it. Yeah. So, you have those five core bots, that's the dog you see initially in the trailer, the first trailer. Then there's a spider, there's the gorilla one, I believe. His name is Duncan. But those are actually the [UNKNOWN] themselves, like the spheres. So you switch those around those are like the souls of the robots. Okay. As I was saying during those demo. You swap those into different bodies frames. And it's the frames you customize. You can give the guerilla hammer arms to make him more powerful. You can give the dog, this like, or the spider sorry. This distance stun gun. And you find new pieces of loot around the world, that enemies drop. You can either shoot her jeweled grappling hook at them and pull them out, for a potential new core. Or you can just destroy them for new parts. And naturally you'll start finding different tiers of items, based on their color. Purple being legendary, it's a classic kind of Diablo, kind of loot [UNKNOWN] angle they're taking with that. Cool, and I found it Like the combat was quite dynamic. In the terms of at once you can switch between all these robots at the same time. So with those kind of new abilities it feels like it's going to be a lot of depth to the combat in terms of, we have that Ikaruga element as well where you have these items and abilities and weapons that you can color match almost. And it does it add more to the combat that you find? A little bit on the surface, yes. You'll be upgrading jewels rifle separately from your core bot. And you'll fight enemies that are either red, blue or yellow, some of the primary colors. That also plays into the core bots. You'll find red, blue, yellow cords, then you'll find a combination color, purple, green. They're really going into the color aspect. But by switching to the color of the enemy, like shooting a red enemy with red, you'll do more damage. And then you say your dog robot. Could you go up two robots on a mission at a time. Out of five that they've been out. So your dog son was one of the, we start shooting with the red rifle. It's gonna hurt them more and then you see bunch of yellow air borne drone. Am I right? Our enemies they're playing [INAUDIBLE] you have seen more damage. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I found it was a night mix of puzzle and. actual like moment to moment in direct combat with platforming. Did you feel like it's a, you know, kind of well-rounded type game? Yes, it's kind of that influence, the Megaman influence, right? Yeah. [INAUDIBLE] They've been saying, you know, it's not a Megaman game, but it does feel like a 3D Megaman in that it combines platforming and pretty difficult combat that I felt You're jumping, you're air dashing, you're air dashing on the ground. Yeah. And you're kind of like strafing from side to side. Feels very much like, kind of a Mega Man mixed with Metroid Prime sort of the world itself. Right. And of course like, if you wanna make another comparison Diablo loot factor. Yeah, yeah. I think the bit that I found most challenging was the Bastion. And it's the part where it most reminded me of Mega Man as well. There's this flying orb type monster. And just constantly pumping out the flying beam fly like enemies. They just constantly shoot. And look for the weak point and I'll grapple onto it. And it required a lot of like maneuvering around to try and find the right weak point. Here at the right time. I'm smacking different [UNKNOWN] and trying my [UNKNOWN] off. It felt really good to me. And as I said it's probably the Mega-man game you're looking for considering [UNKNOWN] was a bit of a. And living in the shadow of Mega-man and people always want that. And I personally [UNKNOWN] look at it. Yeah. It's not going to be 2D obviously. Yeah. But it's going to be something that also might sate your hunger for a [UNKNOWN] almost. Yeah yeah. Kind of structured over worlds. Put Megaman in there something. That's recall across [UNKNOWN] for more on the game and overall coverage of games in 2016. Keep right on the games [INAUDIBLE] [BLANK_AUDIO]
