Podcast videos on CNET TV!: Mailbag
Mailbag: Podcast videos on CNET TV!3:56 /
This week, we announce our exciting new podcast video world takeover plan and respond to angry Fox News fans.
Hello, everyone! Im Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show where you send in your deepest thoughts, questions, and concerns about well, mostly CNET. Sometimes life, but thats a different show. Lets start with a couple of announcements. First, weve switched to a new search technology on CNET TV! And it works now! It can even search transcripts of the videos, so you should be able to search for something you heard me or Tom or one of the Brians say, and itll come up. Give it a try. Search for like, Linux thumbdrive. Boom goes the dynamite. Next up: podcast videos are now posting on CNET TV! See, we live-stream all our audio podcast recordings, like Buzz Out Loud, Gadgettes, Dialed In, The 404, and so on, at watchbol.com, every day. But the video was low-quality and only ever saved at ustream. NOW, weve got some cool new HD cameras in the studio and were recording every episode and posting it at CNET TV. If you go to CNETTV.com, youll see a new menu tab at the top, Video Podcasts. Right now, only Buzz Out Loud episodes are posting, but Gadgettes is next, and soon, well have all the video versions up there. Go check it out! Its very cool. Ok, on to your emails. First, a clarification about a recent statement made in the Buzz Reports point/counterpoint segment with Tom Merritt. Adam, among others, said this: I was intrigued by the new segment entilted Point Counterpoint. I have always enjoyed these open discussions of two conflicting ideas The only problem with media/news is when opinion comes into play which, when Tom attempted a meek and petty attack on the Fox News Network, reared its ugly head again. Please lift your standards and keep politics out of tech news. Lets play that back, shall we? See, there? Tom said Fox. Like, Cops, Married with Children Beverly Hills 90210? Ring a bell? Not Fox News. I can see where the misunderstanding might have happened but he did say intellectual Armageddon happened in the 80s, and Fox News launched in 1996. That was your clue But anyway, now I know Fox News fans hair-trigger. Well be much more careful in the future. Interesting question from Garrick, who asks: Why do you guys insist on using a 1 - 5 scale when judging the Prize Fights? While I enjoy the Boxing theme, you should stay consistent and use the same "10 Point Must" system that is used to judge both Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. And then he sent an explanation of the 10 Point Must scoring system from Wikipedia. And it sounds like a lot of math. But really, Garrick, Prize Fight used to be scored on a 10-point scale, but really, the numbers just got sort of daunting for a five-minute video. So, we made it a 1 to 5 scale because its not real boxing. But if it makes you feel better, you can just multiple the scores by 2 in your head. Good compromise! And finally, lets end with one of my favorite mailbag segments: Are you High Right Now. Heres the message, from monkeyinjuly. Yo hommies! Whats up in the hizzie fo sheezy? Yo Yo check it. Why you gotta be all up in the iphone apps all the time? Not everyone has an iphone! That would be like me always writing reviews about 5 star hotels and my viewers are dogs. (don't ask) Basically why all the iphone stuff? -Nick the master of the univer- oh! MY HOT POCKET IS DONE! =D Now I know youre high right now. Only high people eat hot pockets. And thats it for todays show! Keep the feedback coming! Email me at Mailbag@cnet.com, or send your snail mail to 235 2nd St., San Francisco, CA, 94105. Thanks for watching, everyone. Yo hommies! Whats up in the hizzie fo sheezy? Yo Yo check it. Why you gotta be all up in the iphone apps all the time?
