CNET First Look
Pioneer's new Andrew Jones-designed sound bar coming this fall for $400The "speaker bar made for sound quality" features a composite wood cabinet and six separate drivers.
Hey. I'm Matthew Moskovciak from CNET and we're taking a look at the just announced Pioneer SP-SB23W sound bar. The system was designed by Andrew Jones who also designed many of Pioneer's outstanding budget speakers and Pioneer is pitching this as a speaker bar made for sound quality. That angle is reinforced with its composite wood cabinet. The Pioneer claim offers better sound quality than the plastic cabinets that most sound bars have. The wood cabinet does have a relatively thick and unstylish look though especially compared to some of the slimmer sound bars on the market. Behind the grill, it has 6 independently amplified drivers and a wireless subwoofer that packs a 6.5-inch driver. Bluetooth is also built-in as well as Dolby Digital decoding. The system will be selling for $400 when it comes out in the fall, which is a little more pricey than many other budget sound bars this year. That means the system will need to offer seriously impressive sound quality to compete, although again with Pioneer's track record with budget speakers, they just might be able to pull it off. I'm Matthew Moskovciak and this is a First Look at the Pioneer SP-SB23W sound bar.
