>> I'm Nicole Lee, Associate Editor for CNET.com. And this is a first look at the Pantech Impact from AT&T. It is one of Pantech's latest messaging phones. On the top, there's a very basic monochrome display. It's very small, as you can see. You can't use it for photo caller ID, of course, because there's no color involved. You can use it to access a very limited menu. You can make calls with it. You can access the messaging menu. And you can also go to the music player on the front external display. And that means that everything here is touch-sensitive, from the navigation pad to the number keypad. This consists of two soft keys, a very simple up and down toggle, the talk key and the end key, as well as the very simple number keypad. On the side, you do get the volume rocker, as well as the keypad hold key. Aside from the external controls, you can also open it up to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard and a very nice 2.5-inch color display. The internal keyboard has its own set of navigation controls, from the two soft keys to the end power key, the talk key, as well as a dedicated camera key. There's also a round navigation toggle on the right. The QWERTY keyboard was easy to use. There's a dedicated spacebar key, a dot call key. But we did find it was a little bit cramped. Do note that you can't use the camera when the phone is closed because the external display does not have a viewfinder. Features of the Pantech Impact include 3D support. There's also GPS of AT&T Navigator, turn-by-turn directions. There's also a music player on here, 2.0 megapixel camera with camcorder. Of course, it also has access to AT&T Video Share, AT&T Cellular Video, and AT&T Mobile Music, where you can dial up music over the air. The Pantech Impact is available for around $100 with AT&T. I'm Nicole Lee. This has been a first look at the Pantech Impact.
